Music Marketing Planning

It turns out that planning and developing a music marketing project is harder than it seemed. At first glance, I believed that the planning would be simple while the execution of it would be more problematic. However, I quickly learned that the planning process was much more meticulous than previously anticipated.

The process first began with being assigned a genre of music. Afterwards, a decision had to be made on what song should be used to represent the genre. Our consensus was to pick the song that we believed could be easiest to approach in a music video. Our decisions were biased as no one wanted to star in a heavy rock music video so we favored a more "soft" rock song.

What followed, was the brainstorming portion of our planning. Initially, we didn't really know where to start because of there being so many factors to take into consideration. We began creating our artist's brand, persona, and characteristics which we would market based off of. Naturally, the next question was, "Who are we marketing to?" Young adults were to be the primary audience of our artist. As emerging young adults ourselves, we believed that we could understand what would be appealing and marketable.

The main point of contention in our planning was the use of social media. Social media is a technological key that can open many doors. So we discussed creating a social media for our artist in the form of an Instagram and possibly more. This is something we had great interest in having further discussion about.

The main issue that our group experienced during our planning was the lack of personal ambition in the genre. No member was an avid fan nor experienced to say the least in our field. On the contrary, despite the planning feeling sporadic at times, it all came together coherently in the end.
